What's in a vape juice?

What's in a vape juice?

Usually, the answer to this question is simple. Four things:

  1. Vegetable Glycerin (VG)
  2. Propylene Glycol (PG)
  3. Flavoring
  4. Nicotine (Optional)

There really is no need for other ingredients for vape juice. There are some brands that have unique additives like caffeine, melatonin, and vitamins. Check out High Voltage Vaporz and Breathe B12 for examples. Still, most vape juices have the four elements listed above.

Note that those four elements can be in different types and levels. Many vape juices are 70-80% VG. That seems to be the sweet spot for working well in both tanks and dripping setups. Once you get higher than 80% VG, the vape juice becomes quick thick and might not feed into tanks well. Those high VG or max VG vape juices are more designed for dripping atomizers.

Nicotine is optional in most vape juices. The amount of nicotine can go from 0% (none) up to 2.4% (24mg) for traditional nicotine in vape juice. Usually, when people are switching from smoking, they begin at higher levels and work their way down toward no nicotine vape juice. Obviously, like caffeine, nicotine is best in low or no concentrations.

Now that vape pod devices like the JUUL have become popular, other types of nicotine are being used. You'll hear of those called nicotine salts, nic salts, or nicotine derived from salt. These nic salt vape juices must ONLY be used in pod systems because they are highly concentrated. Many nic salts vape juices come in 12mg all the way up to 70mg (7%). That's a lot, which would be way too harsh in a traditional tank or dripper.

The quality of a vape juice is highly dependent upon the brand of flavoring used. Most vape juices do not disclose which brand of flavoring they use, but Capella is popular, and one of the best around. You'll be able to tell a quality flavor by taste being more natural instead of artificial tasting.

Can vape juice kill you?
Can vape juice kill you?

No.

The better question would be, "Can you kill yourself with vape juice?" Well, sure. You can kill yourself with a soup spoon, too. If you do not use things the way they are intended to be used, yes, you can injure or kill yourself. This also applies to vape juice. If you drink an entire 100ml bottle of high-nicotine vape juice and are able to keep it down, you'll definitely become sick and you may die. Why would anyone do that?
